Are You Listening?

The 'art of listening' is a skill that I want to develop better and better. I have discovered the many distractions throughout my world that continues to cause me to become less and less available to hear. The radio in my car is a wonderful distraction and yet if I choose to turn it off, I am amazed at the interesting sounds coming from my vehicle. In the silence there is a invitation for me to really listen to my thoughts; my heartfelt concerns and the Lord.

In the book "A prayer that Moves Heaven" by Ron Mehl there is a chapter named "Waiting and Listening." This chapter is powerful and engages you to think and remind us of our relationship with the Lord. Here is a portion of the book to consider:

"Listen to God's voice before leaving the place of prayer."
When you pray, do you anticipate God's reply? Do you wait and earnestly listen for what He has to say to you in your situation? Do you want to hear His direction?

Satan hates it when we pray, he hates it even more when we wait on the Lord for His direction and help and counsel. Why doesn't he want us to listen to God? Because he wants us to be separated from the Lord. He doesn't want us to connect with Him. He doesn't want us to see Him as our Father, as our Provider, or as the All-Powerful One. Our enemy would rather keep us busy- even in the Lord's work, if need be- than see us quiet our souls to listen to God's voice."

II Chronicles 20:13-14
