There is an old saying "a picture is worth a thousand words"! I am here to say that this picture of Evan only gave us a few words of his real life.
This summer has been filled with many eye opening truths of how much we as parents really did not know our boy. God rescued our family from a almost tragic story and for that I am grateful. Evan saw his life as hopeless and with no reason to keep living. He confessed his despair and the plan he had to end it all and we acted quickly.
Today, I felt it was time for me to share and to encourage my friends, to stay close to your teen. Don't let the simplest looks or situation cause to think that there isn't more underneath. This is not just a one time only story... it is a reality for more than we even could imagine. These are teens who go to church, listen to Christian music and dress the part that all is good! Since this recent situation I have heard parents stuggling with any real conversation with their teen. My small advise is to stay close and force yourself into their world. Don't give up and get some HELP!
As a family, we have not arrived at the end of our journey... it is a walk we take everyday by faith and with many tears. Eyes WIDE OPEN! Going to support groups, reading parent books, praying and looking beyond the picture. I may share more details later but for now my friends your prayers are appreicated!
