Living in the fast lane!
The American dream lived out in Orange County, California. Well truthfully not always but when I get behind the wheel of my car, put on my seat belt and adjust the mirror, I am ready and willing to drive in the fast lane. Something comes over me and I am determined to get to my destination on time! What a great way to go... or is it?
I have the privilege of taking my son every weekday to a private school which means at least one hour on the road every morning and afternoon. I don't mind it because when he is in the car with me I have an immediate "get out of traffic" card... It is called the Carpool Lane! We breeze through layers of cars lined up and packed in like a used car dealership. What a great feeling...
As we approach the on ramp. My mind is filled with creative anticipation of getting ahead of the slow red semi-truck in the next lane. Ready to punch the accelerator, my eye catches the flashing sign that reads "Meter is ON!!!"Underneath the signal light is the clearly written instruction "One car per green each lane" Oh course I stopped and waited. I also took notice the red signal light took twice as long as it should. What is the point to this anyway? Why interrupt my chance to get ahead of the slow drivers on the freeway? The answer: it is for safety and regulating the congestion on the major highways, stated in the drivers education manual
(I checked it out).
As I am waiting for the light to change, gentle but firm
questions run through my mind...
Where is the meter for my daily life?
How is the congestion in my mind regulated?
What about that schedule? Am I willing to stop and wait?

A new health and safety habit:
When stopping - pause and talk to the Lord. Ask for His hope and rest.
Then softly punch the accelerator - The Meter is OFF!

It's so fun to be able to see the actual scene you are describing even though I'm 1000 miles away.
The meter... God's word and godly friends keeping me accountable.

Stop & wait...
Matthew 11:28-30 (The Message)
Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly."
God's ways are best!
Excellent post Kim!
