Right Turn Only

I love clear directions in my life. I can move with confidence and speed. If I am not sure of what will be coming up next, my mind races over many possibilities and wrong turns. As a Christian, wife, mother and friend I want to continue to go the right way.
When I am driving in my car and happen see this sign "Right Turn Only" I say to myself: "Who do they think they are... telling me that is the only way I can turn!"
Now I like to consider myself as a easy-going, carefree individual and not very stubborn or difficult. (No, you may not interview any of my family members.) I also enjoy the labels of being a "self started" "reliable" or "proactive" woman. Knowing this, for me to make that turn means to let go and admit I was wrong and I am not charge. I must therefore with humility, repent and accept this direction to travel.

So what about God's true direction and promises?
Consider this scripture:
"Therefore as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you."
Colossians 3:12-13

God's way is the "right turn only" on this life long journey. Maybe today we can look for and embrace the value of a blameless life. Here is a great illustration of this truth:

"There is a story told of an Arabian princess who was once presented by her teacher an ivory box, not to be opened until a year had passed. The time, impatiently waited for, came at last, and with trembling speed she unlocked the treasure. As the lid opened on the satin linings lay a shroud of rust; the form of something beautiful, but the beauty was gone. A slip of parchment contained these words:
"Dear student, learn a lesson in your life. This trinket, when enclosed, had on it only one spot of rust; by neglect it has become the useless thing you now see, only a blot on it's pure surroundings.
So a little stain on your character will, by inattention and neglect, mar a bright and useful life, in time leave only a dark shadow of what it might have been. If you place a gold jewel and wait many years you will find it still sparkling as ever. So with yourself, treasure up only the pure, the good, and you will be an ornament to sociey and a source of true pleasure to your friends."

Let us begin today to avoid the small spot of rust that comes from neglect. A harsh word, stinky attitude, ungrateful thoughts or holding a grudge. Because of His love we are a treasure and a truth-bearer.

While living and driving: watch, listen and obey - take the Right Turn Only!
